Hip-hop

Hip-hop refers to Urban Dance styles performed primarily with hip hop music. It’s a fusion of different Dance styles and is especially influenced by African Dance. It incorporates large movements such as bouncing and sliding contrasted by intricate sharp movements.

Within Hip-hop, there are different styles:

  • Locking is based on the old school style and funk music.
  • House is a freestyle social dance that has roots in the underground house music scene.
  • Breakdance is very acrobatic, based on power moves and ground tricks.
  • Party Steps is the most popular hip-hop steps from the ’90s.

Commercial

Commercial refers to styles of choreography created for pop artists that are often promoted through television commercials and videos, and could be defined as a mixture of any dance style where the focus is the attitude of the protagonists.

Commercial Dance gets its name from being the style of dance most often used in today’s international videos and shows, aka “commercial work.”
